Case

Bringing software in-house without stopping the business

A client’s core software was being developed in outsourcing by an outside vendor. The goal: take back full control without the business noticing.

  1. Takeover

An undocumented codebase, with all the knowledge on the vendor’s side. Before changing anything, I understood it and mapped it.

  2. Continuity

The system stayed in production throughout the transition. No interruption for the people using it every day.

  3. Autonomy

Today the software is developed by a three-person in-house team, which I coordinate externally on priorities, code review and roadmap.

About me

Writing software since 2012, and staying with it after release.

I hold an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Verona and have been writing software since 2012. I started with graphometric signature platforms and control software for CNC machines, then moved to the web and to backend work.

Since 2019 I have worked as a freelancer, handling projects from analysis to production support and talking directly to the people who use the software. Two of the management systems I built have been in daily use for more than five years.

Since 2025 I have been the external technical lead for a client company: I coordinate a three-person team, and I brought its core software in-house from the vendor that used to build it.

In my spare time I study and build AI agent systems, and write about them on the blog.

Approach

How I work

  1. First call

You tell me the problem and the context. Together we work out whether I am the right person.

  2. Written proposal

You get scope, timeline and cost in writing before you commit.

  3. Build

Frequent, verifiable releases. The code lives in your repositories from day one.

  4. Handover & support

Documentation for whoever comes next, and production support, for years if needed.

Blog

From the blog

I write about backend architecture and what I learn about AI agents.

  • What breaks when you run local LLMs for coding agents

I moved my coding agents off hosted APIs and onto two machines I own, a MacBook Pro M5 Pro as the client and a gaming PC with an RX 7800 XT as the model server. Model capability was rarely the blocker. The blockers were unified memory limits, inference engines that mangle tool call formats, a model stuck in a loop, and a laptop that kept freezing for reasons I still have not pinned down.

  • Composer 2.5 vs Grok 4.5 for frontend

Composer 2.5 and Grok 4.5 built the same PancakeBot frontend from the same prompt and skills. Composer finished faster, while Grok delivered the more polished first pass.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you work remotely?

Yes, I work remotely from Verona with companies across Italy and abroad. If the project needs in-person meetings, we cover that in the proposal.

Can you take over code written by someone else?

Yes, it is a large part of my work. I start by mapping the system and keep it in production while making it easier to maintain.

Which technologies do you work with?

Mainly Node.js and TypeScript, with PostgreSQL and MongoDB, on Google Cloud, Firebase and Docker, with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI pipelines. I have also worked in Java and PHP.

How much does a project cost?

It depends on scope and duration. After the first call you get a written proposal with timeline and cost, before any commitment.

Can I hire you only to lead the team technically?

Yes, part-time too: I handle priorities, code review and architecture decisions, and act as the technical point of contact for management.

Do you use AI in your work?

I study and experiment with agent-based development: I built Agentic writer, an open-source pipeline that coordinates several agents, and I write about it on my blog. I have not yet taken an agent system to production for a client, which is why I suggest starting with a pilot project. If I use AI tools on your project, every change goes through my review.
